Jan Mayle

Jan Mayle is president of TIPS, Inc. (Trading & Investment Programs & Systems, Inc.) and author of the Securities Industry Association’s (SIA) “Standard Securities Calculation Methods -- Fixed Income Securities Formulas.”

Recently, Mr. Mayle developed and produced the Standard Securities Calculations Software Library. The library was designed to help the securities industry standardize the valuation and analysis of fixed income securities.

Mr. Mayle co-authored, with John Lynch, the revised edition of “Standard Securities Calculations Methods -- Fixed Income Securities Formulas, Volume I” in 1986 and created software that was used to produce examples and benchmark calculations for the book. During that same year, he incorporated TIPS, Inc.

During the period from 1986 to 1988, Mr. Mayle and a team of TIPS, Inc. programmers developed core software that accurately performs standard calculations which is the basis for the “SIA/PSA Standard Securities Calculations Software Library.” From 1988 to 1990, Mr. Mayle edited the “Fixed Income Quarterly Report” for the SIA and, using TIPS, Inc. Software, reviewed calculator and software products to determine their accuracy in following SIA standard calculations.

In 1990, he conducted joint educational seminars with the Public Securities Association (PSA). The seminars explained the newly defined calculation standards for mortgage-backed securities which are contained in PSA’s “Standard Formulas for the Analysis of Mortgage-Backed and Related Securities” book.

In 1993, he wrote the third edition of the SIA’s “Standard Securities Calculations Methods -- Fixed Income Securities Formulas, Volume I.” In 1994, he wrote the second volume to “Standard Securities Calculations Methods -- Fixed Income Securities Formulas.” Additionally, he created a bond calculator which allowed users to check the accuracy of their own calculations against benchmarks, in the book. Mr. Mayle also helped design Texas Instrument’s Fixed Income Securities Calculator, which had the formulas from the SIA Standard Securities Calculation Methods manual built in.

Prior to incorporating TIPS, Inc., Mr. Mayle worked as a consultant for various financial services firms where he developed systems and software to manage fixed income securities.
